Who will win La Liga?

The La Liga title is often spoken about as a two-horse race between Barcelona and Real Madrid. This certainly looks to be the case this season, although with big money players leaving both clubs during the summer, perhaps the Spanish giants are not as far ahead of their rivals as they have been in the past?

The move of Neymar from Barcelona to PSG has taken many of the headlines, but Real Madrid has also lost a key player in Alvaro Morata, who has signed for Chelsea. Despite this, I still expect the two Spanish giants to be battling it out for the league title throughout the season.

Real Madrid won the title last season, beating Barcelona by three points in a thrilling race, with Atletico Madrid a further 12 points behind in third place. Losing Neymar will be a huge blow for Barcelona, but they will look to replace him, and with a replacement in place, they have enough firepower to leap ahead of Madrid.

Whoever arrives at Barcelona as a substitute for Neymar may not be as talented, but it will bring better balance to the team and give them a better look overall. It is expected that they will sign a midfielder, with Phillipe Coutinho rumored to be the man on his way and if he is the signing they make, then he will strengthen Barcelona and make them a more rounded team.

Barcelona has an outstanding team now, with one top addition they will become tough to beat, even for Real Madrid with their current squad.

Real Madrid has managed to keep hold of most of their stars, with Alvaro Morata the only big name to leave the club so far. He scored 20 goals in total for Real Madrid, and they will need replacing, someone will have to step up and fill in for Morata.

The biggest problem for Real Madrid may be the fitness of their two-star players Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale. Ronaldo has not played in any of Madrid’s pre-season games so far so who knows if he will be ready for the season forward. Gareth Bale is another doubt for the early part of the season after he picked up an injury during pre-season.

These injuries could lead Real Madrid to have a poor start to the season, something that they can’t afford to have in such a tight race. That may give Barcelona an advantage, and although the season is a long one, once ahead Barcelona will be challenging to catch.

The La Liga season looks like being a two horse race again between the two Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid. Although Barcelona has to deal with losing Neymar, they are ready to replace him, and it may make them a better all-around team. They have the potential to be better than Real Madrid when they make their big signing, and with a good start, they could be tough to catch this season.
