Leeds United In 2019-2020 Season

Leeds United returned to the Premier League under the Argentine coach Marcelo Bielsa's guidance after 16 years of waiting. Besides, it did so by achieving the Championship League title. Leeds is not just any team in England. This club, founded in 1919, has a vibrant history. The 60s, 70s, and 90s decades were successful for the West Yorkshire team. During those years, this team won three English leagues, besides other domestic titles. It was also runner-up in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in the 1972-73 season and the UEFA Champions League in 1974-75. On the other hand, this club has had stars such as John Charles, Eric Cantona, Rio Ferdinand, Robbie Keane, and David Seaman. Let's see the path followed by this club to return to the Premier League.

How It Was The 2019-20 Leeds United Season

Leeds United bet hard two years ago, signing Bielsa for two seasons. This move would be fruitful. During the 2018-19 season, they were close to achieving the promotion after leading almost the entire tournament. However, they lost in the play-offs against the Lampard's Derby County. But, the following season, they would concrete the objective. The team started the season occupying the standing's first position in six out of the first eight dates. Then, between October and February, they were fighting in accessing play-offs places.

During this period, Bielsa's boys lived their worst times. Between the dates 22 and 32, they played eleven meetings with a 2-4-5 record. They got only 10 points out of 33 possible. This stage coincided with the loss due to injuries of players such as Forshaw, Shackleton, and Hernandez. Nevertheless, the withes would raise their heads and would perform a formidable season ending that boosted them to the title. They were undefeated in 13 out of their last 14 league matches, winning 12 of them, allowing them to close the season with 93 points, a 28-9-9 record, 77 goals scored, only 35 goals accepted. They ended ten points ahead of West Bromwich.

Heroes Of Leeds United's Return To The Premier League

Leeds game prioritizes the collective over the individual. Yet, it is fair to mention some impressive performances. In this sense, his scorer Patrick Bramford contributed 16 goals. Also, the Spanish Pablo Hernandez was a key element despite losing 10 games due to injury. This attacking midfielder participated in 18 goals in the 36 games he played. Other important midfielders were the Polish Mateusz Klich and the English Jack Harrison. Also, the defense was a relevant factor in Leeds' 2019-20 season.

The Peacocks were on their way to a record season defensively. Only that negative 11-game stretch caused by injuries impeded that. During that span, they allowed 20 of the 35 goals they conceded. While in the 35 remaining league matches, they only allowed 15 goals. The leading architects of this extraordinary performance were defenders Ben White, Stuart Dallas, and Luke Ayling. Undoubtedly, this orchestra's director, Coach Marcelo Bielsa was the mind behind the Leeds United sporting success.

Leeds seeks to keep competitive for the upcoming Premier League season. For this, he made essential hires such as Spanish striker Rodrigo and German central defender Robin Koch. It will also be necessary for the project to maintain Bielsa's leadership in the club. Will the 2019-20 season be the beginning of a new successful era for Leeds United in the Premier League?
