Aymeric Laporte Player Reviews

Manchester City has one of the best center-back around the world. This is Aymeric Laporte, the soccer player born in Agen, France, in 1994. Aymeric Laporte started by playing for his hometown team, Sporting Union Agen. In 2009, he caught the Athletic Club scout's attention. In 2011, he joined the Spanish club signing his first professional contract.

Aymeric Laporte's career with Athletic Club and France national team

On November 28, 2012, Aymeric Laporte was called to the Athletic first team led by Marcelo Bielsa, debuting in a Europa League match. He would quickly become a fundamental player in defense of this team. In the 2013-2014 season, Aymeric Laporte contributed to Athletic's qualifying for the Champions League. He also was in the ideal eleven of La Liga. In the 2014-2015 season, he played in the final of the Copa del Rey, defeated against FC Barcelona. In the following campaign, he won the Spanish Super Cup with Athletic, beating Barcelona.

His performance remained at stellar level despite an injury sustained in 2016 that took him off the court for several months. He was part of the Athletic Club until January 2018. With the French national team's lower categories, he played in 42 matches, scoring three goals. He participated in several Euro cups, in a U-17 World Cup, and a U-19 World Cup. He has also been called up several times to the French national team.

Aymeric Laporte: Manchester City's defensive star

From the start of his project at Manchester City, Pep Guardiola always wanted to have the French defender. In fact, in 2016, Manchester City offered 50 million euros to Athletic Club for his services. It was not until January 2018 when the English team could hire him when paying 65 million euros to Athletic Club. This made him the most expensive signing in Manchester City's history. Also, he was the second most expensive defender in football history. With the English team, Aymeric Laporte has achieved several titles. In the year of his arrival, 2018, he became champion of the League Cup and the Community Shield. Likewise, he helped Manchester City achieve that year the Premier League title.

In 2019, he won the Community Shield, League Cup, and Premier League titles again. He also won the FA Cup that year. Besides, he was in the 2019 Professional Football Association (PFA) team of the year. He has been one of the pillars of Pep Guardiola's Manchester City. Until now, Aymeric Laporte played 64 English Premier League, and Champions League matches with Manchester City. In those matches he has achieved five goals, three assists have received six yellow cards and no red cards. Likewise, he has a pass effectiveness percentage of 91.87% and, on average, won 2.15 aerial duels per game.

In February 2019, thanks to the level shown by Aymeric Laporte, Manchester City renewed his contract until June 2025. Laporte suffered a new injury that would keep him out of action for about four weeks last February. This occurred in the first leg of the 2019-2020 UEFA Champions League round of 16. We hope that the 2020 football season restart allows us to see Aymeric Laporte's best level again.
